The Value of A Compliment

One day on our delivery, a little girl around 9 years old told me she like my earrings, as I was going to her door with a directory. Now everytime I put on those earrings I can't think of where I got them only that a little girl liked them. How nice for a child to tell an adult something nice. It would probably be easy as you are checking out at the stand or seeing your teacher each day or even your mom or dad or brother or sister to compliment them on anything. It could make their day. I wanted to share the beautiful view from our front door today! I guess Christ isn't coming this year as there is a rainbow in the sky.

The kids all worked so hard even though according to this picture Bella is the only one working. It was a great experience and the kids showed us the stuff they were made of. The younger kids wanted to play catch phrase and play with the elevator in the apartment buildings after a few hours of work. They did really great and we should have given them more time to play with their cousins. Sorry, I forgot they were just 7 & 8 and shouldn't be expected to run all day. I guess we broke the child labor laws but they still had fun and worked hard and made a little money. Thanks David for having us up for a great cousins reunion.

Baby Nora Gwyneth Campbell

We're glad she finally came on July 12. It was nice Kirsten and her family and 3 of the Favero girls were here when they heard the news. Marae has spent a lot of time with the Berhans. They could all share in the joy. I feel so bad that we found out all the messages sent on the Lindsey Family Moderator haven't been getting to the recipients for a couple years. We just checked it out and Micheline was the only one on it. I don't know how it happened but sorry if you were a few days in hearing the news. Your dad has it fixed now hopefully. It will be so nice to get to hold her. London is too far away! Wish I could be with Marae but she has the internet to answer her questions. They were exhausted when the baby finally came. Sounds like the baby is colicky. I think you have to not eat chocolate or onions. Does anyone else know what causes the colick? I will be anxious to see if she settles down soon. It is hard to hear a baby cry.

The Picture Frame

A stop at Goodwill after the temple.I thought the picture frame would be perfect for one of Minerva Teichert's pioneer picture "Washing Day", for one of the gorgeous 16 rooms of the Virginia City Tahoe Hotel. Upon furthur inquiry they told me that it was going for $760. Yes that is right a picture at Goodwill is not always going to be inexpensive. You see ebay had the same one for $1000. Oh well, so much for that idea. After furthur inquiry I found that the particular frame I had in mind was only $79. Still quite a bit for Goodwill. Since I feel certain that we are to do a business or businesses in Virginia City, it has been so on my mind. Ben hated the mold infested cabin we put an offer in for a short sale. Well your Dad thought the next one up was very cheap construction. Then we found this castle for no more than the house we are living in now. Lots of people don't like to live in Virginia City since Nov-Feb may have roads covered with snow. They deal with it and make it to work everyday down to Carson or reno. It would be much easier finding a job from there than from Yerington and is 20 minutes to the Mall, movie theater, and freeway. Ben for your sake I will put a photo of the Castle which is also for sale in Virginia City. There isn't a lot of choice there but more may come on soon. Let me know if it is better than the cabin on Lousetown. It just seems very showy even though it isn't on the beaten path. The wild horses are so pretty there. Your dad said it was like him wearing pink tights and a headband.

Our Revelations Treasure Hunt

Sorry I didn't get many photos of the little cousins reunion, mini EFY especially for youth, held at the David Patten Lindsey home. The first night it seems we went to the property by the lake for foil dinners and horse riding. We did a little singing around the campfire and had a nice time. Earlier in the day we attended the championship games for Bret and Jake. They came in second by one point but we were all happy as we didn't want to spend the Sabbath at a ball game and the team was depending on the boys participating to make enough to play. We went to the Barbens for Hawiian dinner on Sunday after Church. The flu was going around and a few were sick. Grandpa and I spent a leisurely day recuperating. I actually loved laying around and reading. Tuesday we headed to the Lindseys again and Whitney wanted to do a photo shoot with Twilight characters and the older kids watched the Twilight movie and played a twilight game.
Tuesday we had our treasure hunt from the book of Revelations. It was to help us all be aware of the things that will be happening before Christ's Coming. It is a great and dreadful day. Great for those who are prepared. Here are the verses and the clues. Of course the clues that go with the scripture are with the previous item so the new item and clue can be found. Elise wanted the treasure hunt so I am writing it up.

I guess the best part of the whole trip for us was spending a whole week with Liz and Ryan and their 4 adorable boys. It seems like always before we have rushed here and there. Well we did do a lot while there, mostly canning meat with Liz, helping mother of Pearl clean out her storage and shop for food storage. Provo always has the greatest bargains. We loved getting tons of Guittard Chocolate chips for $1 a bag. There were green mint, white chocolate, semisweet, extra dark, and butterschotch. In case this makes you hungry just plan a trip to see us in Nevada and we will bake them up. It was the grand opening at Fresh Market stores and David suggested we sign up for the 2 minute free shopping spree. I kind of hummed and haad and said well the winner will probably go to someone more needy than us. Well I woke up that morning thinking of all the Western Family brands I would throw in the shopping cart in 2 minutes and said to David lets go. We needed to pick up a few things for the baby Jacob blessing dinner the next day anyway. Well we got in the store a few minutes before the name drawing and I briefed David on what we should buy if his name was drawn. We were just waiting for them to announce the winner of the drawing and David Patten calls and tells us the news of the new baby Miss May who had been born that day. I was very happy with the news. Then came the drawing for the free shopping spree. It was not us but we heard some hoops and hollers and a few teenage kids came running up the front of the store with their mom and they didn't look like they were that wealthy. I was so happy for them winning the prize and thankful for our gift from God also-the lovely little horse. We look forward to seeing it. On the trip Elise chided me about being more excited over them than my own grandbabies. Well I guess I am a horse lover and love to look at all the pretty horses but am certainly not more happy over them.

Our Eastern Trip

The purpose of the trip was to meet our relatives. We enjoyed our
trip to Pennsylvania, passing through Gettysburg with a brief stop. The first night we had dinner with the cousins on the Meacham side. Valerie and Alan Stein met us for supper in New Hope. They live in Ringoes NJ and it was amazing that after I contacted her about family history we were visiting with the "rose" people across from the Boise temple and found out that Val's mom was in the man's class in Reno, Nevada and her dad was his scout leader. He is still a scouter at heart even though he is in his 80s.

The next day we met with Lois and Grant Faunce and had a great time visiting with them. They live in Warminster, Penn. We loved seeing her quilts she had made and the beautiful plants he cares for. He gave me a start of a Pilea. We next visited Betty Ruth Doak Lindsey who is Lois sister. We found out she sang in Operas herself. Well at least one. Amaul and the Night Visitor which was a short Christmas opera. She was the mother.

The next day after enjoying the Amish country (sorry the pictures don't do justice) we went t0 West Virginia. I loved seeing the children working and playing. We decided to do laundry in West Union where Doaks lived. I asked a lady in a parking lot where the laundromat was. After laundry we went to the Newspaper office where a Diane Doak worked according to the men at the Senior Center. At the Newspaper office I was surprised to find out that Diane was the same nice lady who had told us how to get to the Laundra mat. There is a lady I had talked to a few years ago by phone since she had done a bunch of genealogy. I had emailed her saying we were coming on Sunday but we had to change plans and would be there earlier. I hadn't heard from her and was concerned that I wouldn't be able to talk to her. As we were rounding the corner on the way to Arnold's Creek Cemetary I told david to pull over at this flower stand. I asked the lady there if she knew this Frances Hurst
and she said that she was right there. She made benches that glide and so we were able to sit right there and visit. She had even brought the Tyler County history book that she had written many stories in. We agreed that God had led me there. That night we stayed at Wyndam motel in Ohio and Elise was happy that Goodwill was just next to the Motel. I called some Doaks we had met when David was a baby and they had planned an outing for their Mom to Bob Evans and most of the family was there so we met them there and had a nice visit.. The son Fred had visited us in Alaska and he remembered the names of all the children and wanted to learn about them. He said Elizabeth was the most capable 11 year old he had seen. I think she was 9. We were so surprised he could remember after all these years. He had taken little David to see the Muskoxs as he was a teacher and much interested in Biology. It has been an amazing time.
